TRANSCRIPT OF THE SHOW

Hey, everybody. So I wanted to do a very, very short episode for you on how to not overthink what to do for Lent. I wanted to do this episode because, number one, you might be like me, who you think there’s the best thing to do. I talked to so many women who want to do the best thing. And you guys, it comes from a place of really loving the Lord and wanting to make the best of this beautiful season that our church gives us.

But know that although there is no best thing, there is some thing that the Lord does want for you. I want to give you a way to not overthink what to give up for Lent, or what to add for Lent, what to do for Lent, however you want to say it. And if you’re like me, you also probably wait till the last minute.

So I thought this would be fun to come out the Friday before Ash Wednesday, so that you have some time over the weekend to let these concepts, just kind of sink in and let the Lord reveal to you what it is that he wants for you. Just feel really open in your brain and in your heart and say, Lord, reveal to me what it is that you want me to know from this podcast.

And then at the end, I Or even right now, I will tell you that if you know that this scale has been controlling your life for a really long time, that’s been the thing that is hindering you from hearing the Lord’s truth, that you are made in the image and likeness of him. If it’s controlling your day, where you feel good about your day, if it has the magic number and not so great.

If it doesn’t have the magic number, or if it changes the way that you talk to yourself, where that mean girl starts to come out, then maybe by giving up the scale for Lent, like we’re doing in our community, might be exactly the thing that would allow the Lord’s voice to come into your life even more, where you can spend more time in prayer and not thinking about the scale and all of the other shenanigans that go on in your brain from stepping on the scale.

Amen. All right. So how do you know what you should do for Lent? We all know as Catholics, there’s a couple of common practices. One is you can give something up and another is that you can add something. Okay. So how do you know if you should give up something? Well, you can pick whichever one you want, or you can do both.

But what you want to look at is what is distracting you. And the easiest way to decide what is distracting you from the Lord is to just look at what’s consuming your brain space most of the day. Very simple. Isn’t that awesome? What is consuming your brain space? The second thing is you’ll want to see what am I attached to?

And you’ll know that you’re attached to something because you’re not really indifferent. You don’t really have this take it or leave it. It feels like a need that you absolutely have to have it. Guys, No judgment here. I have things in my life I am not ready to let go of that I don’t necessarily have a holy indifference to.

An attachment is something that you really feel like you need. Now there are things that in your life that you enjoy but you could kind of take it or leave it and if there’s things in your life that you just can’t take it or leave you might consider working on that attachment. I’m not saying give it up but potentially start working on that like the scale.

It feels like you need it. How will I know if I’m on track? Well, you know if you’re on track or not.

Okay, so those two things, what’s distracting, what’s taking up your brain space and what do you feel like you absolutely need. , and then you can also be adding things that draw you closer to the Lord. Things like more prayer, daily mass, and in our community, we’ll be going to reconciliation every other week.

You could go every week and we’re going to be targeting our confession time to, uh, more targeted examination of conscience. I find that so often we think that There are certain habits that we do that are just normal. It’s just the way we are. Well, I think they could be taking us from the Lord. Things like feeling consumed and controlled by food, by obsessing about macro tracking, making that our mini God, making the scale, our mini God, making our appearance, our mini God.

So we’re just going to kind of clean things up inside our bodies, inside our souls, that we can grow closer to the Lord. So I hope this is a way that you don’t overthink what to do for Lent and the Lord has put some ideas on your brain. And if you would like to join me and hundreds of other Catholic women as we embark on a radically different Lenten fast by giving up the scale, then join us.
