TRANSCRIPT OF THE SHOW

Hey, everybody. I wanna come to you and talk about how you can do a fall reset, and the four  things that you’ll need. And if you haven’t heard, I’m running a fall reset. It starts September 9th. It’s $97. We do it for two months. You will be reset for the fall. Not only will you learn the four daily disciplines and practice them so that you are well on your way to your healthy weight.

But these are the four daily disciplines you will need to maintain your healthy weight. So what you learn and start implementing becomes integrated into your body so that you can maintain your healthy weight.

So my fall reset is starting September 9th, but this podcast is not about that. This podcast is all about the four things that you need to do a reset. So if you’re doing the fall reset with me already, then just think of these as considerations.

And if you aren’t doing the fall reset with me, then consider these the necessary things when you’re choosing whatever method of fall reset you will do. Because the truth is, it’s September, guys. Labor Day has come. You have the back half of the year, and likely you don’t want it to feel as off routine and out of sorts as your summer did.

Although your summer was awesome, I know that. I know you had a great summer, but you kept thinking, “I wanna get back on track.” So join me for my fall reset. Link is in the description. And if you say, “Well, I wanna do my own fall reset,” I thought I would give you my tips on how I get back on track, how I approach new endeavors. These are the things that I have learned.

Okay, the first thing is that I truly believe if you know you’re eventually going to do something, why not start there? This is the first thing. Start with the gold standard. Start with the end. And an example that I can give you is when back in 2005, I started my own personal training business.

And I was working at a gym. But the way that the gym owner. I handled personal training is that we were not employees. We were all independent contractors running our business inside the gym. So for each session, we would pay him a fee.

Okay, so here I am. I want to work in this gym. I’ve already been a member for a long time, and I’m going to be now one of the personal trainers, and I’m thinking, “What is going to set me apart from other personal trainers?” Of course, my personality. People also pick, you know, trainers based on how they look and the relationship that they have with the trainer.

But if they’re picking me off a picture perhaps and just on paper, what’s gonna set me apart? Well, at this point, I’d already had a degree, and I also had a personal training certification, but it was like, let’s say, an entry-level certification. And so I thought, “Well, why wouldn’t I just get the best certification?”

So in personal training and exercise, there’s one institution and one organization called the American College of Sports Medicine. They set all of the exercise guidelines for physicians, for all of the other certifications to say, ” This is what we believe the exercise standard should be,” and it’s based on all of the research that they do.

So it’s the American College of Sports Medicine. So I thought to myself, “Why wouldn’t I just get a certification from them, and then I never have to get another certification?” Because I’ll always just have the best, because they are the organization that sets all the standards.

So I did. To be able to get that certification, you needed to have a degree, and I had the degree, and I was totally eligible to take that test, and it was definitely more rigorous than the certification I had before. And so I had that.

So here’s my point with weight loss. Listen, if you know you’re eventually going to have to learn how to eat food without overeating it, if you know you’re eventually going to have to learn how to eat the foods that you like to maintain your healthy weight, if you know you’re eventually going to not have to contort your life to fit into somebody else’s box.

If you know that you’re just going to have to learn how to be healthy being you in the life that you have, why wouldn’t you just pick a method that’s going to teach you that? I could hand you a diet program. I could hand you a food plan, but that’s so temporary.

So why wouldn’t you do just what you know you’re eventually going to have to do, which is learn how to eat food that you like without overeating it, learn how to emotionally care and support yourself so that you aren’t turning to food, and to start speaking kindly to yourself?

Like, if that is the key, which it is, to being at your healthy weight, why wouldn’t you lose weight that way? If you know the Lord wants all of your life and you’re not giving this to Him, why wouldn’t you just start doing that?

And so I really believe that my program is the gold standard. It teaches you everything that you’ll eventually need to learn. It’s the only thing that are keeping you from being at your healthy weight. So if you eventually need to learn that anyway, just do it.

Okay, that’s number one. Just look at where you’re eventually gonna have to go and just do that, then you kind of miss all the steps in between. Okay. The second thing is find someone that has what you want and ask them how they have it, and just do what they say.

So I have several examples of this. So for a very, very, very, very long time, I thought I was the expert in absolutely everything. You can even hear, like, “I’ve got this degree, and I’ve got,” like, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Who cares?

I really thought I was the smartest and I knew everything, and I think that comes from youth. I mean, we just think that we know everything. And, I really thought that the more certifications and degrees I had, the smarter I was.

And so, there you go. Until my life was not what I wanted. And, the first time that I realized, wow, I don’t know everything, was with the food, when I could not stop overeating. That was the very first time that I found someone who had what I wanted, and I raised my hands and I said, “I have no idea how to do this. You seem like you do. I’ll just do what you say.”

And I just started blindly following what I was told to do. And I did that sort of as an act also of obedience and just a, “Hey, Lord, you’ve sent someone to help me, and I don’t know a better way, ’cause my way’s not working.” It was also sort of that act of humility.

The second time that happened was when God called me to come public. So if you don’t know my story, I found so much peace and freedom with food, and I was living that privately for six years, and then God asked me to go public. He essentially said, “Okay, Denise, go find my hurting daughters and bring them to me.”

And I knew that meant that I had to find women who were hurting as bad as I was and to bring them to this method, but I didn’t know how to do that, I had no clue. I never had an online business. I’d tried to start many online businesses before, and they never worked, much less a Catholic business.

So I had only been working as a secular personal trainer at that point. I really thought that any sort of God in my profession was professional suicide, and I had no idea how to do that. So I went to the internet at that point and started googling Christian businesses. How do you start a Christian business?

And by the grace of God, what I found was a Catholic business coach, and a Catholic business coach who really gave me a lot of confidence that, hey, you’ve got to follow what God’s saying, and she gave me the step-by-step method to find you guys.

And I just started doing what she said, and I wanna give you an example of doing what she said wasn’t always easy. I remember one time she just looked right in my face and she said, “Denise, I don’t wanna lose weight from you. You don’t look like you’ve ever had a problem. I don’t believe you. I don’t think you even understand me.”

And I thought, “I mean, they just, like, crushed my soul. And then I thought, “Well, how can I get women to understand that I get them?” And I’ll never forget doing. The only way that I knew how to be public at that point was to go on Facebook, and I did a Facebook Live that was pretty much me in tears because I felt so much shame at that point, and I felt so vulnerable of telling you guys all of the horrible things that I’d done with food.

And I’m not shameful about them now, but it felt really shameful to say, “Hey, I used to eat out of garbage cans.” I remember one time taking the trash out, like in the garbage, the outside garbage can, and going outside and opening the garbage can and eating pizza that was in a box.

I remember one time I used to make these very elaborate cakes for my boys, and they would take days because you have to make the cake, and you have to, like carve the cake to be the right size, and you have all of the different icings.

I would. Oh my gosh, I would, like, create these very elaborate cakes for them and all the different icing. And icing is one of my chaos foods, and so I would have all of these different bowls of colors of icing. And I’ll never forget eating the blue icing while I’m making the cake and icing it, and then you eating the cake, the parts of the cake that you cut off with the icing.

Oh my gosh. And I just remember waking up that night, in the middle of the night, to vomit blue icing. And it wasn’t that I was trying to purge. I tried that. That never worked. But my body was rejecting that much sugar. So I could go on, but that is not the point of this podcast. The point is sometimes you just have to find the people that know or find the people who have what you want and just do what they say.

And most recently, I had this situation where I was trying to get into strength training because I’m a personal trainer. I haven’t personal trained at a gym since 2020, but I’ve been doing virtual personal training, so I’ve been doing some strength training.

But then Last spring, I got an osteoporosis diagnosis. Yeah. At 48 years old, here I am, osteoporosis, and it’s because of a lot of hormonal issues. But okay, so now what do I do? You can either reduce the amount of bone loss or do nothing, which is just gonna keep going. And to the way to reduce it, of course, is some nutrition, but mostly strength training.

And I had been trying for a couple years to be really regular at a gym. I mean, you can strength train at home, but what I had was not enough to stimulate bone growth for me anymore. So, but that’s because I’ve been training for 30 years.

So here’s the point. I found a trainer. I found a trainer. Not because I didn’t know what I should do when I went to the gym. I found a trainer ’cause I couldn’t make myself go. I couldn’t make myself go. The level of accountability that I was providing myself wasn’t enough to keep me motivated to go.

So I hired a trainer so I would show up to the gym and I could build that bone. I just did what she said, ’cause obviously what I was doing wasn’t working. And that’s really where I get to a lot of times where I finally get help for something, is I just say, “You know what? What I’ve been trying isn’t working.”

And if you feel like you’re in that spot, just find somebody who has what you want and ask them how they have it. And for the women listening to this podcast, the answer is me and God ‘ cause God has done through me is miraculous, and he’s doing it through so many women, and if you aren’t doing it yet, join the fall reset. He’ll do it through you, too.

Okay. Number three: Meet yourself where you are. Be willing to be a beginner. So when I hired that trainer, what she told me to do, I was committed to doing it. But I’m gonna tell you, some of the workouts felt very, very long. And so because I was learning them, I had to look at the video, watch the video a little bit.

How many sets am I doing? How much rep? What was the weight? I’m looking at this app and feeling like I’m trying to figure it out more than I’m actually working out while I’m at the gym. And then there were times where I didn’t have a lot of time, so I would cut my workout short.

But I want you to hear, I still showed up. I still went to the gym. I still allowed myself to feel like, “Is this workout even doing anything?” But I knew it was doing something because I got to the gym. I opened the app. I started learning the exercises, and I also had to learn how to even use this app. I’ve never used this app before.

And I could cut my workout short, but I still got there, and I knew the next time that I did that workout, I would go faster, ’cause if you’ve ever done strength training, you repeat the same workouts for several weeks in a row.

So I allowed myself to be new, and it was uncomfortable. It felt like I was wasting time when I was trying to figure out the app more than I was exercising or trying to figure out how to set the machine up or trying to figure out, well, how do you even do this exercise? I just felt really like a beginner, and that’s very uncomfortable. It’s uncomfortable for me ’cause I know the gym.

But I want you to see it’s gonna be uncomfortable for you, but it’s not a me problem, and it’s not a you problem, it’s a human brain problem. Any time we’re learning something new, it is uncomfortable, and our brains think it’s a problem. But the only reason it’s uncomfortable is because it’s unfamiliar.

And I want you to hear is if you join me for the fall reset, it’s all unfamiliar to you. Expect your brain to take longer to understand the concepts than you think you should. Now, the time it took me to learn the exercises and figure out the app was exactly the right amount of time. Nothing had gone wrong. It was part of the process.

There’s the part where I don’t know how to do the full exercise, but on the way, there are many steps. Part of it is deciding what time I’m gonna go to the gym, putting my clothes out, driving to the gym, seeing how long it’s gonna take, when’s the best time to go? Opening the app, seeing how to do the exercise. There’s just many steps. How do I record my weights? How do I hit save? Did I lose the workout?

There are just many, many parts, and I want you to know that’s just part of it. Starting anything new feels unfamiliar, and let’s just take a breath and recognize that we’re beginners. Meet yourself where you are. It was fine that I cut my workout short. It was fine that I left some exercises undone. It was fine because I eventually got there, and now I’m a year out.

I’ve already finished that time with that trainer. I’ve been working out on my own because I’ve learned everything I needed, and I’m taking that, and now I’m tweaking it and finding new fun things to do, and I’m a beginner again. But now I’m not a beginner in being committed to strength training. Heck, no, I am in it. Like, this is my life. I’m doing this.

So be a beginner. And when we do the fall reset, like I said, everything’s gonna be new to you, or no matter what method you’re going to do, and just know that’s not a problem that it feels unfamiliar. It’s not a you problem. It is a human brain problem.

And finally whatever you do. And this has been one of the things that I have learned the most. This is number four, what I have learned the most recently is to have a very try tweak attitude, which is, I don’t know. I have no idea how this is gonna go, but I can try it. Just I’m gonna try it this way once. I’m gonna see how I like it, and we can always tweak it. I don’t know how it’s gonna go. Let me see.

So when you do the fall reset, there’s going to be times where you think, “Am I doing this right? Am I doing this right? I don’t know.” And I want you to say, “I don’t know, but I’m gonna try it.” And one of my favorite things is saying, “I don’t know, but I’m gonna try this. This could blow up in my face,” and that’s totally fine. But we’re just going to have a try-tweak attitude.

And you know, one of the things that most women have when they do the fall reset is I teach them how to plan their food, and they have unconditional permission to plan any food, and that’s really very unfamiliar to your brain. And so what I want to offer you is when you have a try-tweak attitude, if you plan food that you enjoy, people are very much afraid that they’re going to overeat it.

Then I say, “Well, what happens if you do? Just try it. Try planning food that you like. If you overeat it, then we can adjust the next day. This is only one day. We’re not saying for the rest of your life. You’re making a plan for one day. We’re going to see how it works.

Okay. Just have a try-it-week attitude. The stakes aren’t high. Whatever happens, you’ll learn from it, and we can go from there. So these are the four things that you will need for a fall reset. Number one, hey, just do the work that you’re eventually going to have to do. Number two, find someone who has what you want and ask them how they got it, and just do what they say. Seriously, just do what they say.

Number three, meet yourself where you are. Let yourself be a beginner. It’s gonna feel unfamiliar, and that’s totally fine. And number four, have a try-tweak attitude. I don’t know, just see how it goes.

I hope you are joining me for the fall reset. We start in two days. There’s nothing you need to do besides get signed up. Our very first call is the very first time that you need to do anything. September ninth is the beginning. It’s ninety-seven dollars. We do our fall reset for two months, and it is two months so that you can integrate these four daily disciplines into your life and they become part of you so that you can maintain your results.

We don’t want partial results. We don’t want incomplete results. No, we want full results. So I will see you at the fall reset. And remember, this is Weight Loss with the Holy Spirit, where we keep God our God. Not our pant size, not the scale, not the magic diet. No, God is our God.

All right, everybody, have a blessed day.
